We’re often curious to see what we’re not supposed to see. While hiking I was drawn to a tree whose roots had been exposed by the stream below. Even though I was curious, I moved quickly, afraid of anything that would appear. Our imagination can be worse than reality and can alter our experiences. This fear and curiosity collided to become the creature that came from the roots. As she slowly exposes herself, we fear her. We do not know who she is, what she is, or what she will do. Her eyes watch us and study us. As she’s fully exposed we can see by the sadness in her gaze that her existence has been disrupted by our curiosity.
