Freedom Trap

A poem I wrote inspired by my painting of the same name.

This one is about our own definition of freedom.

The inspiration behind this poem is the painting as well as how I felt at the time that I created the painting.

Freedom Trap

Original poem by Francesca Bandino

Look into my soul.

There you will find

All of my complexities

I have nothing to hide.

Yet, it all remains

Shielded

Behind these bright eyes

I could go anywhere

Escape this place

That you’ve chosen for me.

Anywhere

Just to be free

But I already know

Where I want to be

You can give me

Everything

That I will ever need

But freedom

Weighs on my heart.

I won’t be held back

Now it is time

To let me go.

Rebirth

Original poem by Francesca Bandino

This is the time

For transformation

Tragedy has torn me apart

Along the way

I’ve lost pieces of myself

Yet, here I am

With the opportunity to be

Exactly who I was always

Meant to be

I appreciate life

Because it has changed me

And gotten me

To where I am today

So that even though

A part of me has been taken

I can, once again,

Be whole

As an accumulation

Of the lessons I’ve learned

And the truths

Which are now a part of me

As I emerge

From the dusk

Resilience

Original poem by Francesca Bandino

You are strong

And wonderful

You will withstand

And adjust to

All the challenges

That come your way

You will fight back

You will be

Brave enough

Resilient enough

To make it through

Another day

And all that you lack

You will make up for

In your ability

To make due

With what you have

Take shape

And rearrange

So that anywhere you go

You will shine

Beneath

The light of the sun

Always With Me

Original poem by Francesca Bandino

After such heartache

I find joy again

There is hope

All will be alright

This will be

My happy place once more

Yes, I can

Embrace the joy

So one day

Happiness will return

And the breaks in my heart

Will be stitched up

By new memories

While also remembering

The old memories

The good memories

You will always be

On my mind

In my heart

And by my side

I will leave

My heartache behind

Minimalist Beauty

A poem I wrote inspired by my painting of the same name. It’s about flowers and about telling others who we truly are.

Minimalist Beauty

Original poem by Francesca Bandino

Simple and wise

Always be kind

This may be

The definition of perfection

But I’m not so refined.

What seems perfect to you

Isn’t perfect to me.

I take pride in the imperfections

I move and flow freely

Yet, the lines you drew

Confined me

Held me in

Kept me within

The walls of your expectations.

They were drawn hastily

Without regard

For my pride and perseverance

Don’t go any further

Stay where you are

There’s beauty in

The messy details of it all.
